non periodical independent magazine 2008 - 2016
This magazine-format publication project explores unfamiliar and experimental relationships between images (photography and drawing) and texts through a contrasting left-right structure evident on every page. Images and texts, independently created, are randomly paired during the final design stage, enabling readers to experience subjective and fluid connections across large-format page spreads. This experimental approach deeply investigates various contrasting themes found in daily life, opening up multilayered possibilities of interpreting images. Over ten years(2008-2016) and nine published issues, the extensive archive of photography and drawing accumulated has become a significant sensory and conceptual foundation for expanding artistic practices into other media.

어디를 펼쳐도 만들어지는 책 좌우의 대비적 구조를 통해 이미지(사진과 드로잉)와 텍스트의 낯설고 실험적인 관계를 탐구한 잡지 형식의 출판 프로젝트이다. 이미지와 텍스트는 각자 독립적으로 제작되었다가 마지막 디자인 과정에서 임의로 배치되며, 독자는 큰 판형의 좌우 페이지를 통해 두 요소 간의 주관적이고 유동적인 연결을 경험한다. 이러한 실험은 일상에서 발견되는 다양한 대비적 주제를 심도 있게 탐구하며 이미지의 다층적 해석 가능성을 열어준다. 10년간(2008-2016) 9권의 출판을 통해 형성된 사진과 드로잉의 풍부한 아카이브는 다른 매체로의 작업 확장에 중요한 감각과 사유의 기반이 되었다.

edge/water/line vs. ridge/ island/point

past the protruded blots drawing from
the speed of a diagonal can reach the ridge.
acceleration makes a line and its end is a point
a line is drawn from a point to arrive at a point
the first point, though the line’s genesis is
also in and of itself a condensation of a line.
the second point is an island.
this point is the true point, once a mountain
now has become an island.
this mountain- island; point’s time differs from line’s time
the difference between the two is known
through the living colors, forms, scents, senses,
and sounds slowly covering the point
at that point it is hard to realize,
but then, beside the point, it's realized.
line slanted flows quickly and stops abruptly.
when a diagonal reaches its edge and stops
suddenly a point cannot be living
but becomes a smudge. smudges are graves.
though, cannot become a true grave.
since graves are protruded ridges prayed on
to wish the next life. life blooms from ridges.
on the edges death, at the ridges life.
모서리/물/선 vs. 등성이/섬/점
사선의 속도를 그으며 툭툭 튀어나오는
얼룩들을 지나야만 등성이에 도달할 수 있다.
속도가 선을 만들고 선의 끝은 점이다.
점에서 선을 그어 점으로 도달하는 것.
첫 번째 점은 선이 자라는 곳이지만,
그 자체로 선의 응축이기도 하다.
두 번째 점은 섬이다.
이 점이 진짜 점인데 원래 산이었다가 섬이 되었다.
이 산이자 섬, 점의 시간은 선의 시간과 다르고
그 둘이 다르다는 것은 점을 천천히 뒤덮는
살아있는 것들의 색, 형, 향, 촉감, 소리로 알 수 있다.
그곳에 있으면 잘 알지 못하지만,
그곳에 없으면 잘 알 수 있다.
선은 기울어져 빠르게 흐르며 갑작스레 멈추기도 한다.
사선의 모서리에 갑작스레 멈추면
살아있는 점이 되지 못하고 얼룩이 된다.
얼룩은 무덤이다.
그렇지만 진짜 무덤이 되지는 못한다.
원래 무덤이란 봉긋한 등성이를 만들어
다음 생을 기원하는 바이기 때문이다.
생명은 등성이에서 피어나는 법.
모서리엔 죽음이, 등성이엔 생명이.

surface vs. inner voice
① The one who realizes slowly and painfully.

④ Predictable failure for others, unpredictable failure for myself.
⑤ Why does light have seven edges?
⑥ Not easily readable, smeared with misunderstandings, you have something different to tell from what appears on the outside.
⑦ The joy of misreading.
⑧ Searching in the midst of a big crowd of people. Searching amid abundant rubbish.
⑨ Now is the moment of fluttering, heart beating, full of emotion, at the brink of bursting, left with a lost heart.
⑩ Life in a sewer craves for life in beauty.
⑪ If I could guard my sight, I would let go of my words.
⑫ Excessive emotion is sincere without any doubt, yet its weight will entail isolation.
⑬ Planting a flower. For the honeybees. Setting the table. For my child. Flower on the dinner table.
⑭ The shadow of the plant did not disappear and became letters.
⑮ Animal with plant-like beauty.
⑯ Timid flower blooming in lush greenery.
⑰ There is no end. We just don't know what comes after the end.
⑱ Feeling the depth without looking at the bottom.
⑲ Polyhedron of contradiction, difficult to grasp its true nature.
⑳ Is this the process of losing? Or gaining? We move ourselves to gain something but we change when we lose something.
㉑ Flowers are in full bloom especially when it's time to leave.
㉒ Where you stand decides on what you see.
㉓ The strange quality of beauty. The beauty fades when all agree to it.
㉔ Absolute, Objective, General; the three falsity brothers.
㉕ Hold conviction to simplicity, add some humor to complexity.
㉖ I think revealing the impossible rather than the possible is stronger expression.
㉗ I have sown seeds and waited all my life. Now, death becomes my fruit.
겉 vs. 속
① 천천히 고통스럽게 깨닫는 자.
② 모든 표지들은 한 곳을 향한다.
③ 어둠으로 묶인 자들.
④ 남에게는 예상할 수 있는 실패, 나에게는 예상할 수 없는 실패.
⑤ 왜 빛은 일곱 개의 모서리를 가졌는가?
⑥ 쉽게 읽히지 않고 오해로 점철된 너는 보기와 다른 내용을 가졌지.
⑦ 오독의 즐거움.
⑧ 많은 사람들 속에 찾다. 많은 쓰레기들 속에 찾다.
⑨ 설레었고 두근거렸고 벅찼고 터질듯했던 지금은 잃어버린 심장.
⑩ 아름다운 삶을 시궁창의 삶이 갈망한다.

Crystal vs. Decision
Crystal;
[Chemistry] Material of which the arrangement of atoms has a repetitive spatial form.
When liquid is chilled, the movement of molecules slows down and under a certain degree of temperature, molecules form a regular arrangement and cannot move about freely. As a result of regular arrangement of such molecules(or atoms), a material with a uniform character is formed which is surrounded by flat planes and is called crystal.
Decision;
Clear determination of action or attitude. Or content of such determination.
결정 vs. 결정
결정(結晶)
[화학] 원자의 배열이 공간적으로 반복된 패턴을 가지는 물질이다. 액체를 냉각시키면 분자들의 운동이 느려지다가, 마침내 어떤 온도 이하에서는 분자들이 일정한 배열을 이루게 되고 자유로이 돌아다닐 수 없게 된다. 이런 분자(또는 원자)들의 규칙적인 배열의 결과로 평면들로 둘러싸인 모양을 가지게 된 균일한 물질을 결정이라고 한다.
결정(決定)
행동이나 태도를 분명하게 정함. 또는 그렇게 정해진 내용.

Front vs. Back
– The world that is antagonistic, organic, multi-sided, consistent, unorganized, and harmonious.
– The new is the unknown and the uninformed.
– It is not difficult to take the lead of something that is going well. Taking the lead of something that is not going well will make you end up being in a strange place. It may be a bad, strange, yet new place.
– The stronger the sense of disjunction, the larger the blank space. More familiarity, less possibilities to avoid.
– Always free, borderless.
– Progress when things are ambiguous; retreat when things are clear.
– It gets sharper before it dries and crumbles.
– Reading the signal of fragments.
– Words we say push us forward.

– Temporary ownership is disappointing and at the same time pleasing.

앞 vs. 뒤
– 상극적이며 유기적이고 다면적이며 일관적이고 무질서하며 조화로운 세계.
– 새로운 것은 미지와 무지의 것.
– 잘되는 걸 끌고 가는 것은 어렵지 않다.안되는 걸 끌고 가다 도착하는 곳은 이상한 곳.나쁘고도 이상하고 새로운 곳.
– 괴리감이 클수록 여백이 많다. 친근할수록 피할 수가 없다.
– 늘 자유롭고 경계가 없다.
– 모호할 때 전진하고 명확할 때 후퇴하는 것.
– 말라 부스러지기 직전 진정 날카롭다.
– 파편의 신호를 읽다.
– 우리가 한 말이 우리를 이끈다.
